It's a Biblical Truth that God/Jesus loves Hip Hop! It says so in Psalm 149:3 where the Psalmist talks about playing drums and dancing. Well there are certainly drums and drum beats in Hip Hop/Rap music. And you can certainly dance to the drum beats in Hip Hop/Rap music!
"A Christian Rapper is a Contemporary Biblical Psalmist!"
That is a bold statement! Yes it is indeed but is it true? And what is rap? What is a psalm?
Rap is musical poetry.
A psalm is biblical poetry.
Christian Rap is biblical poetry in musical form!
Rap - put simply - is musical poetry! And you could say that The Book of Psalms is an album, a record of Biblical Rap or Biblical Poems. So you could say that Christian Rappers are in fact Contemporary Psalmists! For they wish to proclaim the truth and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, of God - The Holy Father - and of course of Jesus - The Holy Son!
For those who think that Hip Hop/Rap music is devil music then they are completely wrong. Yes in mainstream rap music, you could say that it is devil music because they speak profanities and worldly truths and not spiritual truths. But the actual music is hip hop. Hip Hop music is primarily drum beats and rhythms and so cannot be wrongly defined as devil music. Indeed, Hip Hop could be described as God music as the Bible says praise him with drums and that is exactly what Hip Hop is - it is drum music! It is Mainstream Rap - which is worldly poetry - that is devil music but not necessarily the hip hop drum beats and percussive rhythms that form the foundation of that musical art form. Unfortunately it is the overall image and message of Mainstream Rap music that conforms to the God of this World as opposed to Christian Rap music that conforms to the Real God of this World!
And for those who think rapping is just a musical form of shouting ought to check out Psalm 100:1 where the Bible literally tells us to "shout" about the Lord! The only difference is Christian Rappers shout about the Lord in a rhythmic flow or chant. Well rapping is simply rhythmic word. It is the rhythmic delivery of spoken word or lyrics. And you could say the Psalmist in the Bible chant the biblical truths of Christ in a rhythmic flow! Amen!
